Corey Hager is a singer & songwriter from Ripley, West Virginia. After picking up a guitar his final year of high school, in 2009... Corey found what he wanted in his life was music. During this moment of self-realization, his first performance was at his high school variety show in front of close to a thousand people, thereafter leading him to write and perform an original graduation song for all of his peers.
In April, 2012, after almost three years of demo recordings and crafting his sound, Corey ventured to Springfield, MO to record and release "I Like It That Way", his first 3 track EP, with producer Kevin Gates (Never Shout Never, The Ready Set). Influencing from classic bands like The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan, Corey began playing what he likes to call "folk pop... with a country twist", and started to make a name for himself among the alternative scene, opening local shows for many metal and pop-punk bands. "It was a very unique and interesting time," he says. "It was part of me going off and doing my own thing... in many ways it shaped who I am today."
Corey was featured in Alternative Press Magazine (AP&R #288), had the opportunity to join the stage with national acts (Cash Cash, Craig Owens, Chase Coy, William Beckett, Hawthorne Heights, Front Porch Step) including his all-time favorite, Never Shout Never (as well as a co-write session with the singer-songwriter Cristofer Drew), and in 2013 - performed on a date of the Vans Warped Tour.
Stepping fully into the genre of country music, Corey found his sound back at his roots. With the release of his debut album, ’Wanna Be Country', on February 10, 2015, he quickly began to establish himself as a regional artist, performing over 120 shows throughout the Tri-State area, opening shows for #1 artists such as Sam Hunt, Easton Corbin, Chris Janson, Joe Diffie, Rodney Atkins, Lorrie Morgan, Darryl Worley, Sammy Kershaw, Jamey Johnson, John Anderson, and many Top 40 artists such as Chase Bryant and Luke Combs, while obtaining a large growing crowd draw and fan base. Making regular trips to Nashville to play shows, Corey has also began making connections and contacts in the industry, as well as landing co-writes with #1 songwriters.
"As far as I've came along my journey, this is only the beginning," Corey says, with a flare of eagerness. "I'm just paying my dues."
